Over the years I’ve been involved in the design, development and manufacture of scientific equipment, medical devices, consumer & industrial products and museum exhibitry. In my spare time I like to tinker, invent and build things. Below are examples of some of the things I’ve worked on and built.
Overview of my work
Mechanical design, R&D, Mfg engineering, etc.
I’ve always enjoyed building physical objects, working with my hands and creating useful, space-efficient solutions to basic living needs. Here’s a sampling of things I’ve designed and built.
A light-switch with a fun & playful action – pulling / deflecting the ball switches a light on & off.
A clothing rack in the form of a rope ladder for space efficient storage. Made of sustainably harvested maple and braided hemp rope.
Hand-cut pine, bronze screws, hemp rope & milk paint. Sized to fit eight TT-4 storage boxes underneath.
A method for hanging items from a metal bar attached to the wall.
Shelving for Bigso boxes - pine planks sawn diagonally with dowel supports.
Exhibits I developed while employed at the explOratorium as an Exhibit Developer.
”…mixed; mingled; consisting of several things; of diverse sorts…”
A deck of cards displaying each of the phonemes that comprise spoken English.
A pocket astronomical reference book with a 20 year calendar of lunar & solar cycles, including tables, descriptive text and illustrations.
Some concepts around ways to visualize a more 3-dimensional Earth and provide an intuitive sense of where other cities, peoples, continents and oceans are relative to your given spot on the planet.
Calculate direction and distance to other places on Earth “as the neutrino flies”…
