Hang Bar

Looking for a way to hang items above my desk without screwing hooks into the wall, I came up with this approach. This makes it easier to change the type of hook and adjust its position by sliding it along the bar.

Brief overview:

• Attach a strip of hardwood to the wall (3/4" x 1.3" x 69" walnut in this case).
• Cut a length of stainless steel bar (I used a 3/8" dia. x 66" long piece).
• Drill & countersink through-holes in bar at regular intervals (16" center spacing here).
• Attach bar to the hardwood strip, spacing it with washers such that there’s a gap between the two. Use a washer (or stack of washers) thicker than the bent wire hooks that will hook around the bar. In this case I used 1/16" dia wire for the hangers, so the washer spacing was ~0.070".

Pay attention to the straightness of the bar & wood strip so the gap between the two isn’t smaller than the wire dia. at any point.
